The Team
Manager/Matron
Susan Mason, our Manager/Matron, started caring when she was 15 as a care assistant and progressed to qualify as a Registered General Nurse in 1991. She started her managerial role in 1994 as a Deputy Matron in Berkshire and has progressed to Matron/Manager, managing Homes in Devon and Cornwall for the last 14 years. Her speciality is Elderly Nursing Care. She is a very people orientated Manager and strives to give everyone Quality Care and also remains approachable.
Qualified Nurse
There are always qualified nurses on duty 24 hours a day. These nurses are responsible for the home in the absence of the manager. All qualified nurses are required by their professional body to undergo regular training updates in order to stay in line with current practice. The majority of this work is completed externally.
Care Staff
All staff receive induction and foundation training. As well as covering the principles of care they also receive essential training such as Health & Safety, Manual Handling, Fire, Food Hygiene etc. Once induction and foundation is completed we encourage all our care staff to undergo NVQ II & III training. This work is assessed by outside agencies, however we also have internal NVQ assessors.
Administration
In order to support the management team we have a full time administrator who is the first port of call for all enquiries and deals with bed vacancies, billing and a large amount of paperwork.
Housekeeping
This department consists of cleaners and laundry workers and is headed up by a housekeeper with a huge amount of experience in care settings. The housekeeper is responsible for cleanliness, hygiene, ordering supplies etc.
Catering
There are two cooks on a rota supported by a small team of kitchen assistants. Our cooks provide varied fresh and wholesome food every day. There is always a choice of home cooked meals on the menu. Food is sourced locally whenever possible. Special diets are catered for and the catering department works closely with the nursing and care staff to ensure residents nutritional needs are being met.
Maintenance
Last but certainly no least our maintenance man is an experienced engineer with a great deal of maintenance experience. As well as being responsible for serving, repairs, re-decoration, gardening etc he also shares the responsibility of Health & Safety, Fire training and precautions.
Training
As well as the nursing and care staff all staff receive mandatory training relevant to their department, including regular fire training, which takes place every three months and includes live fire fighting.
Part of the annex has been set aside as a training and meeting room so that this work can be carried out without distraction.
Visiting Professionals
Our senior staff are in regular contact with professionals who will visit when necessary e.g. GP’s, Dentist, Community Psychiatric Nurse, Social Worker, Care Managers, Occupational Therapists, District Nurses etc.
